Larry attended grade school and high school in Manitowoc and entered the United States Marine Corp in 1958, serving three years active duty, one year over seas and three years reserve. He returned to Manitowoc to be hired at the Manitowoc Engineering Company where he retired in June, 1999.
At that time, he and his wife Dorothy moved to 'his life dream of a log cabin' that they and the family built in the early 1980's. Lots of plans went into making that log cabin, with his dad and son building prototypes of Lincoln Logs. Larry was an avid wood carver and sketcher, working in pastels, chalks and oils. Over the years, he acquired the need to pen words to paper and wrote many special poem-like stories, which he shared with only special friends. Of course, growing up with a family of hunters, Larry had to prove himself worthy, and spent alot of time not only hunting but fishing. After applying for 10 years, he finally successfully shot a black bear. He also spent many hours on Canyon Lake in Vermillion Bay, Canada. Larry also trained hunting dogs, mostly Labs, which he had a few. Most recently, he acquired the title of Jr. Vice Commandant, Det. 1239, working for Toys4Tots. He was also with Post #461 American Legion and served as Deacon of his church since 2001.
Larry is survived by his wife, Dorothy; a son, Loren (Chong); a daughter, Sara (Jason) Taylor; five grandchildren and a sister, Mary Lou (Gene) Gates of Two Rivers, WI.
Preceding him in death are his parents and one half sister, Elenore.
Christian Memorial Celebration will be at Crossroads Church, W8134 Beecher Lake Road, 4 miles South of Pembine, Wisconsin.
