Audrey P. "Sweet" Matthews
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at a 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Broussard, for Audrey P. "Sweet" Matthews, age 78, who died at 10:12 AM on Monday, April 15, 2013 surrounded by her family at her residence in Lafayette.

Entombment will be in Sacred Heart of Jesus Mausoleum.

Reverend William "Bill" Ruskoski, Associate Pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Wanda Menard, her sister-in-law and Pam Hollier, her godchild. Giftbearers will be her granddaughters, Kirstin Labauve, Daphne Dugas, Leslie Meaux, Brittany Zagar, Kyndra Melancon, Malorie Nosworthy and Lainey Dumesnil. Eulogist will be her granddaughter, Daphne Dugas. Eucharistic Ministers are Monique and Toby Armentor. Jodi Bollich, organist, will sing for the services.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Maxie J. Matthews; three daughters, Lynn Wainwright, Donna Matthews, and Rachel Dumesnil; seven grand daughters, Kirstin J. LaBauve, Daphne W. Dugas, Leslie W. Meaux, Brittany W. Zagar, Kyndra D. Melancon, Malorie D. Nosworthy and Lainey K. Dumesnil; eight great grandchildren, Maxey, Sydnie and Parker LaBauve, Triston and Ramie Dugas, Grady and Grayson Meaux and Audrina Zagar.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis P. Prejean and the former Olita Hollier, both natives of Broussard; her grandparents, Etienne Hollier and Belzire Broussard.

Mrs. Matthews was born on February 17, 1935 in Broussard and was a lifelong resident of Lafayette, Louisiana. Audrey was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, painting, shopping, golfing and traveling with her best friend and husband of 58 wonderful years. Audrey was an avid photo taker and if you needed a photo of anything she would have it! She will be greatly missed by all but not forgotten.

Audrey was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Ladies Altar Society. She was also a member of the Villagers Home Demonstration Club, the Crazy Sox Group, the Thursday Lunch Bunch with cousins and friends and member of several pokeno and card groups. Audrey was always giggling and had a smile on her face. She enjoyed her group gatherings which always kept her very active. Audrey attended St. Cecilia School in Broussard.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Hollier, Glenn Guidry, George Prejean, Jason Matthews, Cole Matthews and Gary Graff.

Honorary Pallbearers will be David LaPoint, Rene Prejean, Kory Hollier, Ray Matthews, Floyd Menard, Earl Guidry, Curley Romero and Alton "Fat" Begnaud.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE location on Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of service.

A Rosary will be prayed Tuesday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.

The family would like to express their gratitude and many thanks to Hospice Compassus, especially Brother Dave, Karen, Margaret, Terry and Beth for all their support and comfort. Her wonderful caregivers for the past eight years present and past, Jessica, Rachel, Suzanne, Phyllis, Mary, Dianne and Cheryl, who all loved her as if she were their own Mom. A heartfelt thanks to her best friend, who never left her side, Rita LeBlanc.
