She was born Aug. 20, 1927, in Plattsmouth, Neb., to Martin and Elizabeth Friedrich Lohnes. She married Gerald B. Poe on July 3, 1955.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; parents; mother-in-law, Mabel Poe-Barter and brother, Marvin Lohnes.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Sheri Poe-Pape; son-in-law, Bruce Pape; grandsons, Trevor and Jared Pape; sister-in-law, Dora Lohnes; niece, Kathy Kalhammerl and nephew, Darrell Lohnes.
In her earlier years, she was employed by B&F Confectionary, Schippers, Farmers Auto Insurance and Caterpillar. She was active in the Caterpillar Ladies Bowling Team and St. John’s Lutheran Church Choir. Evelyn was a kind and gentle soul, and would always be there for those in need. She was the epitome of the “perfect” traditional stay-at-home mother. She was also a compassionate wife, daughter and sister.
There will never be another Evelyn in our lifetime. Her presence will be forever missed daily. Rest in peace, Mama.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. today, Friday, at Henderson Funeral Home and Crematory in Pekin, with visitation from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate.
Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens.
