Funeral services for Opal Faye Branch, 82, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013, at the Harvey-Douglas Centennial Chapel with the Rev. Matt Benedick officiating. The family will gather and receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home. Interment will take place at the Crow Cemetery near Orr, Oklahoma.


Opal was born to Homer Joe and Beulah (Cheek) Gregg on April 28, 1930, in Orr, Oklahoma. She died on April 14, 2013, in an Ardmore, Oklahoma, nursing facility.


Opal had attended Orr schools. She was retired as a school cafeteria cook from Springer schools. She was a member of the Springer Missionary Baptist Church. She loved to fish, read, sew, watch westerns and tend to her rose garden, but her greatest love was spending time with her children.


She married Arthur Albert Branch in Canadian, Texas, in 1968. He preceded her in death on November 16, 1985.


Her parents, a son, Jerry Whatley, and a brother, Roy Gregg, also preceded her in death.


Opal is survived by three sons, Larry Branch and life partner, Carl Durbin of Springer, Oklahoma, Gary Branch and wife, Katina of Moore, Oklahoma, and Wayne Merideth and wife, Becky of Minco, Oklahoma; daughter, Debra Blackerby and life partner, David DeGroff of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Tye Branch, Trey Branch, Garth Branch, Nichola Branch, Katrina Merideth, Dixie Evans, Tracy Evans, Miranda Plusnick, Kevin Blackerby and Joey Blackerby; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Dodson of Ringling, Oklahoma, and Annie Ruth Klingenburg of Ardmore, Oklahoma; brother, Charles Gregg of Canton, Oklahoma; and a sister-in-law, Lou Gregg of Wilson, Oklahoma.


Casket bearers will be Larry Branch, Gary Branch, Wayne Merideth, Trey Branch, Garth Branch and Tye Branch.


Honorary casket bearers will be Carl Durbin and Rodney Gregg.
