Velma "Val" Ledora Smith

Funeral services for Velma "Val" Ledora Smith, 88, of Coos Bay, will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 17th, 1999, at the Christ Lutheran Church, 15th and Myrtle, in Coos Bay. Interment will be at the Ocean View Memory Gardens.

Pastor Eric V. Kaelberer will officiate.

Val was born July 21, 1910 at Flom, MN to William and Elisa (Thompson) Buckle. She died May 12th, 1999, of age-related causes in Coos Bay.

She had been a resident of the area for more than 40 years working as a waitress at the Boat Basin Café and Gussie's. After retirement she went to work for the Green Thumb senior program, retiring in 1985.

She was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church, American Association of Retired Persons, HERE union Local 9 and an auxiliary member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ladies Eagles.

She was very family and church oriented.

She is survived by a son, Dale (Eva) Lampert of Kalama, WA; sisters: Laverne (Victor) Johnson of Moorhead, MN and Coral Jean (Lowell) Laufenberg of Alice, ND; grandsons: David Lampert of Vancouver, WA; Daryl Lampert of Rock Ledge, FL; Richard Lampert of Camas, WA; Randall Lampert of Battleground, WA; Chris Hendrickson of Mt Vernon, WA and Mike Hendrickson of Woodinville, WA; granddaughters: Barbara Hendrickson of Lynnwood, WA and Julie Gunderson on Sand Point, AL; 19 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Scott Smith; daughter Fern Hendrickson; brother, Kearney Buckle and sisters, Mabel Glawe; Elvira Krier and Marvel Landsem.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Christ Lutheran Church School and Building Fund (1835 N 15th St; Coos Bay, OR 97420).

Arrangements are under the direction of North Bend Chapel, 756-0440.
