Ferdinand "Fred" Meyer, 83, of 1412 S. Adams Ave., died at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 10, 1997, at Marshfield Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, where he had been a resident since July 28, 1995.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hansen's Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Mark Krueger of Christ Lutheran Church will officiate. Mrs. Ilse Bradtke, organist, will provide the music.
Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Fred was born Oct. 25, 1914, in Dorchester, to Albert and Anna (Volp) Meyer. He was educated in rural Dorchester country schools. As a young man, he worked in northern Wisconsin and Minnesota as a woodsman.
He married Dorothy Kayhart on March 31, 1937, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dorchester. After his marriage, he farmed in the Spencer and Unity areas. He was also employed by Roddis Plywood Co., in Marshfield during World War II. Following his retirement, he was employed at the Spencer Bowling Alley. The Meyers moved to Marshfield in 1988.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Meyer; his children; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; his brother, Harold (Verna) Meyer of Grand Marsh; and his sister, Edith Roehrborn of Marshfield.
He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Dorothy Wirkus; a brother, Lester Meyer; and a great-grandson, Gregory, at birth.
