ELLA HOFFMAN STROM passed away on April 13th, 2013. Our beloved Mother and friend moved to Heaven to be with her Lord Jesus Christ, No more pain, no more sorrow.

Ella was born on May 11th, 1918 in Galveston County, Texas to Modena and Edwin Kurt Hoffman.

Her early childhood took place during the Great Depression which gave Ella the ability to sense needs and provide for others in very special ways. These years were spent in Boston, Massachusetts, Tempe, Arizona and Texas. While in Boston a baby sister died because there was no money to buy coal for heat. She had contracted double pneumonia. Two infant brothers perished for lack of medical treatment. At the age of fourteen Ella lost her Mother, also due to and untreated medical condition…lack of funds. After all those years

Ella still wept when speaking of her. Over her lifetime, beginning in World War Two, Ella took in soldiers on leave, individuals and entire families. She has fed, clothed and housed the needy most of her adult life. Each day was not complete until she had given something to someone!

Later on while being active in the family farm, cattle and hay business, she was also an accomplished homemaker and the most wonderful Mother! She grew her own garden and sewed her family's clothing because there was little money. It is a wonder how she was able to fit everything she did into her schedule.

For 28 years Ella held Bingo at local Nursing Homes providing entertainment and comfort to the residents. While much older than most, if not all of them, she exhibited the youthful satisfaction of bringing much happiness to those precious people. In her latter years she had to use a wheelchair to accomplish this, always without complaining.

Many hundreds of trips were made to Galveston and other cities as far away as San Antonio to feed the hungry.

She did all of this under the umbrella of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 6378 in Dickinson, where she was a devoted member for 58 years, serving as Chaplain for 38.

Her repertoire included these sweet facts:

Babe Ruth was a friend of the family in Boston, and would dance to the music of the Victrola in her family's apartment.

In 1933 at the age of fifteen, she gave Marcel Waves to the local wealthy women charging 5 cents! Later on she greatly enjoyed her position at "Mary Jo's Salon" in Dickinson.

She spent many years as a tailor at "Graham's Men's Clothing Store" in Nassau Bay where her clients included TV celebrities, Astronauts and the famous "Red" Adair.

In 2008, May 7th was declared "Ella Strom Day" in Dickinson. She was honored by many outstanding politicians for her love for veterans, their families and her community.

Ella was preceded in death by her parents, Modena and Edwin Kurt Hoffman; brother, Alfred K. Hoffman; husband, Ardes (Ardie) L. Strom; eldest son, Robert G. Strom; second husband, Jim Watson and her precious pets, Gypsy and Seymour.

She is survived by her brother, Edwin K. Hoffman, Jr.; daughter in law, Olivia Strom-Tolbert; daughter, Judy (Jody) and husband, Tony Lindsey; son, Kenneth Strom Sr. and wife, Lisa; son, David Strom, Sr. and wife, Becky; step son Perry Watson and wife Denise.

Grandchildren, Michael Strom, Carrie Strom Menotti, Jeff Lindsey, Sean Joseph Reilley, Robert Rangel, Leon Taylor, Kenneth Strom Jr., Heather Taylor King, Jennifer Strom, David Strom, Jr. Chris Strom, Stephanie Leal, Brian Strom, April Feray and Wendy Cone…plus thirteen great Grand Children.
