Death Claims Salt Laker, 88
Arthur Hulbert, 88, [living at] 177 L Street, a pioneer Salt Lake businessman, died at his residence Monday at 8:12 a.m. of causes incident to age.
Born July 20, 1859, in London, England, he was a son of William and Jane Horsnell Hulbert. Coming to this country when eight years of age, he moved to Salt Lake City 60 years ago.
Shortly after the first railroad into Salt Lake City was completed, Mr. Hulbert and his brother, Harry, established Hulbert Bros. Trunk Co. He continued as a partner in the business until his retirement several years ago.
Mr. Hulbert was a sports enthusiast, particularly interested in baseball. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, being active in the Twenty-first ward 48 years. He was a high priest at the time of his death.
He married Gertrude Davies in Logan LDS temple in 1885. She died in Salt Lake City Nov. 16, 1934.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Alice Remington, Los Angeles, and Margaret Hulbert, Salt Lake City; a son, Arthur D. Hubert, Salt Lake City; a brother, Bert Hulbert, Salt Lake City; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a nephew and niece whom he reared: George Davies, Los Angeles, and Mrs. Beth Pujoe [sic], Monrovia, Cal. [Should be Mrs. Beth Pujol.]
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 12:15 p.m. at 124 S. 4th East, where friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday after 10 a.m. Burial will be in Salt Lake City cemetery. [A photo of "Mr. Hulbert" when older accompanied the obituary.]
