Michael R. Kraft Sr.

Michael R. Kraft Sr., age 71, of Newark, Delaware lost a courageous battle against cancer and went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 11, 2013. He was surrounded by his family at the home of his daughter, Michele, with whom he lived.

Michael was born on May 28, 1941 in Yakima, Washington. Michael proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Dover, Delaware where he met the love of his life, Angeline Amoroso. Michael was co-owner of the Western Auto Store in Middletown, DE for 37 years alongside his wife. He was known for his sharp wit, coached Little League Baseball and was an avid fan of the Phillies. He earned a third degree black belt in karate, enjoyed fishing, motorcycles, dancing and cherished the time he spent with family.

Michael was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Angeline C. Kraft; parents, Tony and Marcella Kraft; brothers, Anton and Mark Kraft; and granddaughter, Gabrielle Merritt. He is survived by his 5 children and their spouses: Michele and Benjamin Stevens, Terri and Edward Merritt, Michael and Jennifer Kraft Jr., Joseph Kraft, and Toni and Paul Waters; 12 grandchildren: Megan Stevens Smith, Mary Stevens Kowalski, Angela and Cheyanne Stevens, Max, Alexis, Olivia and Dalton Merritt, Ryan and Austin Kraft, and Gavin and Preston Waters; two great grandchildren; six sisters; two brothers; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013 in Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702 from 6pm-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 19th in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 345 Bear Christiana Road, Bear, DE 19701 at 10am followed by burial at St. John's Cemetery in Newark, DE. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713.
