He was born in Jackson County to the late Dewey "Bud" and Martha Jane Blanton Ammons.
Mr. Ammons was a U.S. Army veteran during WWII and served as a Sergeant 4th Class with Company B 92nd Medical Battalion serving in Nor-mandy, France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #60, American Legion Post #23 and Lowell Masonic Lodge # 590.
He attended Gaston College, graduate of the North Carolina Vocational Textile School. He worked in Supervision with Burlington Mills for over 30 years and later worked for Reeves Brothers Osage Plant, Bessemer City for over 14 years. He loved his Lord and his church, Flint Groves Baptist Church, where he served in various offices. He enjoyed visiting nursing homes and the homebound. His love for missions led him to work with "Campers on Missions". He loved sharing Christ with others.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Virgie Lee Barnes Ammons; daughter, Pansy Ammons Seagle of Tifton, Georgia; son, Wayne Ammons of Mount Holly; two granddaughters, Autumn Lee Seagle of San Diego, California, Jennifer Ammons Acheson and husband Chris of Mount Holly; one great-grandson, Owen Acheson; two brothers, Willard Ammons, Glenn Gipson and wife Modene of Gastonia; numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Ammons was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Rev. Robert Ammons, Sam Ammons.

Interment:Gaston Memorial Park with Military Honors by the U.S. Army and the Gaston County Honor Guard
