Lola was born on March 11, 1914 to Thomas F. Hicks and Gracie Mae Shearer Hicks in Hope, Arkansas.

Lola had six siblings: Thomas Hayes Hicks, William H., Mack Coy Hicks, Guy H., Francis Hicks Prater, and Louise.

She had a step-brother Frank Hicks and a step-sister Creighton(Sis)Hicks McDowell.

Lola married Roy Odell Powell and together they had five daughters - Mary Sue, Betty Lou, Ruth Ann, Shirley and Linda Diane.

They lived on the North-side of Fort Worth on Rock Island Street and Lee Avenue.

Lola was an exceptionally good mother and a fantastic cook.

She loved to sew and garden.

She made all of the girls clothes and her own up until she became ill.

Her sister in law Dora said when Roy and Lola were first married she was a real Tom-Boy. They would drive up to the house and couldn't find her in the house but instead found her out back climbing a tree.

Lola was devout Pentecostal and a member of Northside Assembly Of God in Fort Worth, Texas and was especially fond of fellow church members Harley and Christine Martin.

Lola developed Colon Cancer and was in a coma for two weeks.

She passed away on March 27, 1959 at only 45 years of age leaving behind five young daughters.

Lola had thirteen grand children.
