LINN-- Wilma Ione Peterson, 90, died Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Linn Community Nursing Home, Linn.

Mrs. Peterson was born March 17, 1923 at Clifton, the daughter of Ralph and Blanche (Cook) Gingles.

She moved from Clifton to Clay Center in 1939. She graduated from Clay County High School in 1941. She married Marvin Peterson on November 11, 1941. He preceded her in death on March 28, 2003. While her husband served his country in 1942 she worked in Wichita for Beech Aircraft. She was among those known as Rosie the Riveter. After her husband returned from the war in 1945 they farmed in Washington and Clay counties. They moved to Clay Center in 1952. She worked for the Co-op Thriftway Grocery, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Leisure Center and the American Legion Auxiliary, all of Clay Center. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Bruce and Richard Peterson; four brothers; one half-sister; and one great-grandson, Evan Peterson.

Survivors include three sons, Jim Peterson and wife Connie of Manhattan, Robert Peterson and wife Patricia of California, Mo. and Don Peterson of Salina; one sister, Ruth Erich of Abilene; one brother, Lawrence Gingles of Prattville, Ala.; her step-mother, Christine Cooper of Belleville; ten grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 16 at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Chapel, Clay Center, with the Rev. Larry Myers officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Clay Center United Methodist Church or Clay Center Leisure Center in care of the funeral home, 918 7th St., Clay Center, KS 67432.
