Joseph Bunch Byrum, 62, of the 1000 block of Old Ferry Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at his home. Mr. Byrum was born in Chowan County and was the son of the late Robert Lee Sr. and Bertha Bunch Byrum. An employee of Weyerhauser in Plymouth for 33 years, he enjoyed gardening and was an avid fisherman. For many years he had been a member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Denise Byrum, a son, Joseph Keith Byrum, and a wife, Connie Ward Byrum. Surviving are his wife, Brenda Johnson Byrum; two daughters, Melinda Byrum Owens and husband, Leroy, of Edenton and Marsha Byrum Acree and husband, Roger, of Windsor; two sons, Steven Byrum and Kevin Byrum, both of Edenton; two stepsons, Christopher Dail and Kevin McMullen, both of Edenton; two sisters, Helen Ives of Virginia Beach, Va., and Louise Johnson of Edenton; six grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, Edenton, by the Rev. Dr. James Horton. Burial will follow in the Byrum Family Cemetery near the homeplace. Friends may join the family today from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home and all other times at the residence. Miller Funeral Home, Edenton, is in charge of arrangements.
