Bluford Owen Brooks, better known as "Mickey" or "Pet" passed away July 9, 1966 while being taken to the St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.
Mr. Brooks was born June 27, 1874, son of the late Ira and Delia Bates Brooks in Coles County, Illinois. After moving to Greenup in 1902, he married Viola Reeder in 1904. To this union was born two children, Mildred and Doyle.
In 1917 he joined the Masonic Lodge after which he was a sincere and devout Mason. In April 1927 he became a member of the Presbyterian Church of Greenup, serving as a trustee for many years.
He is survived by his wife ; daughter Mildred at home; son Doyle and his wife Ruth of Indianapolis; granddaughter Kay and her husband David; half-sister Ida Baird of Mattoon, a half brother Omar Hanley of Dallas Texas, three nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother and two half-sisters and a half-brother.
Services were conducted Monday at the Hiles Funeral Home with Rev. Paul McLaughlin, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in the Greenup Cemetery.
