Ten airmen were killed when Wellington (#X9974) aircraft crashed soon after take-off from RAF Hampstead Norris. The Wellington had set out on a ferry mission.

Son of Mary Elizabeth D. (née Scott) Crosby of Hamilton, and the son of the late sculptor Reuben Nurse Crosby [both parents born in England].
Sergeant David Young Nurse Crosby is commemorated on Page 27 of Canada's Second World War Book of Remembrance.
He is also commemorated by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
