Month's Illness


Funeral services for Evans Abercrombie, age 38, were held from the chapel of the Kerlin Funeral Home on Sunday, August 24, at 5 p.m., with Dr. Elwin Skiles and Rev. D.L. O'Neal, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, officiating. Solo selection at the services was rendered by B.M. Olive of Haynesville. Burial followed in the Arlington Cemetery under the direction of the Kerlin Funeral Home.

Mr. Abercrombie was born in Athens, January 20, 1909 and was very active in the Baptist church throughout his life time. He had been ill for about a month but was seemingly doing well, until Saturday morning, when his condition grew worse, and he died Saturday afternoon, August 23, at 3:45 p.m., at the Minden Sanitarium. He was employed by the Claiborne Electric Co-op as Electrification Supervisor.

The deceased is survived by five sisters, Mrs. T.J. Kerlin, Mrs. John L. Ferguson, Mrs. Pat Olive, Mrs. Gus White and Miss Kate Abercrombie, all of Homer; also two brothers, H.G. Abercrombie of Lafayette and Tom Abercrombie of Overton, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.G. Abercrombie and one brother, Drew Abercrombie.

Active pallbearers were Lynn Averett, John L. Ferguson, Jr., Tommie Abercrombie, Kenneth Marsh, Rodney White, Edward Olive, Tommie Kirkpatrick and Ralph White.
