On Wednesday, April 10, 2013, a wonderful man ended 78 years on this earth and left behind a family who loved him and a legacy that will live on in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Toby "Hot Shot" Sing, Jr., passed beyond this world to the next after a short illness. He will be remembered as an honest, loving man who always reached out with a helping hand to anyone who needed it, friend, family or stranger.

"Hot Shot" spent most of his life in the Shawnee-Tecumseh-Macomb area doing what he loved most: hunting, fishing, working on cars, and visiting with everyone he met. He graduated 8th grade from Progress School near the community of Anderson. "Hot Shot" was a founding member of the Tecumseh Flames Car Club in the 1950's. Though he served in the Korean Conflict and worked as both a plumber and electrician, his true vocation came from tinkering with engines. People came from far and wide to have him work on a car, a tractor, or anything else with an engine or wheels. His expertise as a mechanic was surpassed only by his ability to spin a tale and his love of sharing stories with everyone he met. He had an affinity for putting people at ease; he was one of those people "who never met a stranger." "Hot Shot" loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was a lifelong member of the NRA and an adamant supporter of the 2nd Amendment. When you needed a laugh, he'd know just what to say. If it was advice you needed, he had both intelligence and wisdom to share though you learned the most by watching and imitating his values. And when it was time for a "come to Jesus", well, let's just say his daughters wanted to run for the hills.

On March 16, 1973, he married the late Cheryl Lynn (Howe) Sing and their marriage lasted 35 years before she too left us far too soon.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Toby Sr. and Martha (Carpenter) Sing; three brothers, Raymond Sing, Jack Sing and James Sing; and one sister, Betty Sing.

He is survived by three daughters; Deborah (Jim) Hughes of St Augustine, FL, Lea Walker of Shawnee, and Pam (Brandon) Thompson of Tecumseh; two sisters, Judy Sing of Macomb and Nora Lee "Chee" (Don) Doss of Shawnee; two brothers, Jim (Delores) Sing of Tecumseh and Paul "Buck" (Rita) Sing of Meeker; six grandchildren, Aaron "AJ" Talley of Jacksonville, FL, Tristan Hoke of Tecumseh, Brian Chandler of Shawnee, Chad Pitchford of Shawnee, Caitlyn Pitchford of Tecumseh and Courtney Carpenter of Tecumseh; and three great-grandchildren, Amelia and Ava Chandler of Shawnee, and Jeremiah Pitchford of Shawnee; more nieces and nephews than you can shake a stick at; in-laws, out-laws and strays that were always welcomed in his home; and a passel of beloved dogs.

Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 14, 2013 and continue through service time. The family will gather to meet with friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Cooper Funeral Home. Services for this remarkable man will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 15, 2013 at Cooper's Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Ray Wade and Reverend Clint Dawkins officiating. Burial will follow at Brown Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh. It was Hot Shot's desire that in lieu of flowers, donations to the National Rifle Association (NRA) be made to honor his memory.
