In a 28 Feb 1910 article in the Newark Evening Star, Mary Van Court claimed she and Charles were married in Bloomfield on 24 Feb 1875, and they lived together in Bloomfield and Glen Ridge until June 1899, when she left her husband and since resided in Montclair. She claimed that they never divorced, but Charles married Margaret Roninger, a widow on 22 Jul 1908 at St. John's rectory in Orange.
