Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth T. Dews, who was born in Ashland in 1896, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at the Trinity Episcopal Church, Ashland. The Rev. Robert Ellis will officiate. Interment will be at the Ashland Cemetery.
Mrs. Dews, 74, died Sept. 17 at a Medford convalescent home. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1914. After studying at San Jose State College and the University of California, she taught school at Lakeview and at Ashland.
In 1917 she married Oliver Edmund Dews, of a family that settled near Jacksonville in the 1950s but the marriage was later dissolved. After living for a time in Dunsmuir, Calif., she returned to Ashland in 1935.
In the 1940s and 1950s she taught in the schools of Talent and Gold Hill.
She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, and a past-president of Chapter BN of the P.E.O. She was also a member of Alpha Chapter No. 1 of the Order of the Eastern Star, and of the Ashland Study Club.
She is survived by a son, Edmund Dews, of Santa Monica, Calif., and by four grandchildren: Diana Tenckhoff-Dews, Seattle, Georgina Ruth, Penelope, and Stratford Dews, Santa Monica Friends who wish can contribute to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
