May 8, 1869 - Another man of God has fallen and another home has been made sad and desolate by the withering touch of the angel of death.

Brother Shadrach Rice of thirty-nine years experience in his Master's service has closed his earth's career and gone to his reward on high. He lasted but a few minutes after he was attacked, but his house was in order, and he was ready for the summons.

Brother Rice was born in Marion County, S.C., Feb. 18, 1799.

He professed religion in 1830 at Chopee Campground and joined the Methodist Church of which he was a constant faithful member until the 8th.

He died suddently while at work. His example of good-hearted purity and confidence in God wielded a good example in the community where he lived, but his sun has gone down and risen on the other shore.

He leaves his stricken wife and several children and many relatives to mourn their loss. May they follow as he followed the Good Shepherd and finally be gathered with the redeemed host of every age to sing forever in the Heaven above.
