James, son of Jacob Anthony and Sara Allender, married Sophia Gillilan on 07 Sept 1898. James worked for the Lancaster (Ohio) Traction Company as a streetcar motorman for 18 years. He was a member of the Maccabees. James and Sophia had 4 sons and 1 daughter: Ralph Eugene, Clara Fay, Willis L., Charles H. and Thomas James. The 1940 census lists James (head of household) as living with his daughter and son-in-law Emmet and Fay Shafer; and Sophia living with their son, Charles. James died in 1948 and Sophia in 1960. His obituary can be found in the Lancaster Eagle-Gazette newspaper 12-16-1948, p.A-2.
