Robert A. Bourassa, age 81, a life-long resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2013, at his home.

Robert was born in Wilmington on November 5, 1931. He was the son of the late Donat and Marie (Bedard) Bourassa. Robert was raised in Wilmington and a graduate of Wilmington High School.

Following high school, Robert joined the United States Army in August of 1952. He proudly served his country during the Korean War. Robert earned the rank of Corporal in the Army. Following his service, he was discharged in 1954 and came back to Wilmington.

Robert returned home where he married the love of his life, Elizabeth, on August 25, 1956. The couple raised their four children and shared 40 years of marriage until her passing in 1996. Robert worked and provided for his family as a pipe coverer for the Union Local 6 in Boston.

Robert loved sports. Watching the Red Sox and Patriots games were his favorites. Robert also liked to play softball and enjoyed bowling as well. Robert was also a member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Lodge, where he made many friendships.

Family was the most important thing to Robert. He loved family gatherings and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved to take in all the sporting events of the kids, whether it was baseball, football, lacrosse or any other sport. He also enjoyed going camping with them. Robert loved his dogs, Mittens and Sabre, who were also a part of his family. He will truly be missed.

Robert was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth M. (Lewandowski) Bourassa. He was the loving father of Karen M. Camilli of Acton, Robert O. Bourassa and his wife Deanna of Lynn, Pamela E. Leighton and her husband Michael of Wilmington and Gary J. Bourassa Lowell. He was the cherished grandfather of Bobby and Allyson Bourassa, Ryan Bedard, Peter, Zachary and Nicholas Leighton, and Alexandra and Gianna Bourassa. Robert was the dear brother of Harry and Donat Bourassa, Theresa Fredericks, Lucille Tallini and the late Ann Crocker, Margaret Hickey and Paul Bourassa, Robert is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
