Rebecca used to tell her family a story about when she was a young girl, probably in southern Indiana. She said a panther tried to get in their cabin one night, and her mother built up the fire so it couldn't get down the chimney. The cat then began to paw under the door, and Deborah Martin placed an iron pan in its way so it couldn't dig its way in.

Written in faded ink underneath that, are the births of Rebecca's two sons, Elijah B and Elisha B. Under that, various grandchildren's births are recorded.
