On September 29, 2006, Jim Whitaker passed away peacefully with loving family members nearby. He was married sixty seven years to his best friend Carolyn. He was commonly called "Big Jim" by close friends and family members. He earned that nickname probably because of his big soft heart and willingness to accept almost any challenge or adventure.
He and Carolyn traveled to and lived in many places around the country and the world, including the Middle East, South America, and Alaska. His career as a construction superintendent and project manager gave him pride and satisfaction. He was responsible for building some of the largest and most complex projects in the world, including major portions of the Trans Alaska Pipeline, eight of the largest dams in the U.S., major portions of the interstate highway system, large mining projects, and a major port in Saudi Arabia.
He and Carolyn were born and raised in the Seabeck and Shelton areas. No matter where their travels took them, they always returned to their home at Lone Rock, near Seabeck. There they enjoyed their family and friends, who would often be treated with great stories, political dissertations, a friendly drink, a poker game, and always a fond memory to take away.
He set a high standard and good example for his children and grandchildren to follow. He will be missed.
He was the last survivor of six children: Len, Earl, Maxine, Ione, Kenny and his twin sister Jane. Their parents were King and Bernice. Also preceding him in death were his two daughters, Sandy and Cheryl.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn; son, Jim Jr.; son-in-law, Greg Jenkins, son-in-law Allyn Wilson; daughter-in-law, Jinx Whitaker, daughter-in-law Nancy Whitaker; grandchildren, Traci Weiland, John Jenkins, Allyn Wilson Jr., Brenda Adamson, Victoria Michael, Christine Lawton, Jennifer Whitaker and Wendy Whitaker; great-grandchildren, Travis Wilson, Justin Wilson, Austin Jenkins, Keira Jenkins, Nicholas Whitaker, Parker Lawton, Georgia Lawton, Quinn Michael, and his life long friend Richard Razor. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
