First Professional golfer in North America. Worked at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, England, under Jack Morris prior to coming to Montreal to become the greens keeper at the then Montreal Golf Club. He also designed the first twelves holes at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Course in Southampton, New York, and The Newport Country Club in Newport, Rhode Island. In 1899 he moved his family to Rye, New York, and later died of pneumonia in 1902.
