Nettie Mobley was born on her family's farm about one and a half miles southwest of Heath Springs in the Dry Creek area. She grew up on the farm, attending the local school about a mile away, walking to school except when the weather did not permit and then being taken in a horse drawn buggy. On April 9, 1893 she married James M. Carson, a businessman from Kershaw. They were happily married for about two years when tragically she died from uremic poisoning while pregnant with her first child. She was buried in the Salem Church Cemetery in Heath Springs along with her unborn child.
