Born to A.E Abbott and Marianne Jane Campbell, John was named after both of his grandfathers, Sir John Abbott and Alexander Campbell.

He was an Arts student in his final year when he won a commission in the C.O.T.C. and was soon posted for overseas service. While on a route-march, he aggravated a minor foot injury. He became extremely ill and died in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal aged 20 from blood poisoning.

The rifles of the firing party spoke in final salute and the "Last Post" was sounded. He was remembered as a good officer and staunch friend.

Rest in Peace John
