Creek-Seminole artist and sculptor. He had a unique combination of spiritual vision, humane understanding and technical virtuoisty and his art was a radical departure from classical Indian Art. He began painting in the 1960's and with little formal training, he committed himself to Indian art from 1962 to 1967, and produced hundreds of paintings that received the acclaim of critics, won awards, and brought him success and recognition. His ability to draw anything after only a momentary glance has led critics to refer to him as the Rembrandt or Goya of Indian art. He died of a firearms accident.
