FRANCIS-No services are planned at this time for Donald E. Akins, 79, Ardmore, formerly of Francis. Mr. Akins died Thursday, February 7, 2008 at the Veterans Administration Nursing Home in Ardmore. He was born on December 6, 1928 at Francis, Oklahoma to Cecil and Laura Akins.
Mr. Akins was a horse trainer and lived in Francis, Oklahoma most of his life. He served in the U. S. Army as a Master Sergeant during the Korean War.
Survivors include four sisters, Velma Barrett, Denton, Texas, Thelma Webb, Sun City, Arizona, Magdalene Starnes, Collinsville, Texas, and Wynema Atkins, Charleston, South Carolina; a nephew, Barry Webb, Ada; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Ray Akins, Henry Akins, Dennis Akins, and Earl Lee Akins.
