NEW BEDFORD -- Lucille B. (St. Gelais) St. Amand-Charbonneau, 81, of New Bedford and Brookville, Fla., died Thursday, July 7, 2005, at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of Gaston B. Charbonneau; they were married 17 years. She was the widow of Aurelle "Pee Wee" St. Amand; they were married more than 35 years.
Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Frederica (Boisvert) St. Gelais. She lived most of her life in New Bedford and was a communicant of St. Mary Church and most recently at St. Frances Cabrini Church of Brookville, Fla., where she and her husband wintered.
She worked at St. Luke's Hospital and the Visiting Nurses Association until she retired. She also worked as a nurse's aide at the Casa Seville. She was also a stitcher many years ago.
Mrs. St. Amand-Charbonneau was happiest when caring for others or her pets, and received much pleasure from her family. She especially loved Christmas, family gatherings and the joy of giving. She had an innate talent for beautifully decorating her homes. Family and friends will agree on her delicious cooking and generous hospitality. She was a lady with a great deal of style and class, and an accomplished seamstress; who made many of her own clothes throughout the years.
