Jennie Fitzpatrick, 88, of Houston, a former longtime resident of Calhoun County, died Wednesday in Houston. She was born Sept. 28, 1898, in Port Lavaca, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. P. B. Campbell. In 1914, she moved with her family to the Old Settlement of Seadrift where her father worked as a ranch foreman. She and her husband, W. R. Fitzpatrick, owned Mary Jane's Café in Seadrift for 22 years. Following her husband's death, she moved to Houston where she continued her business interest only to return to Seadrift in 1949, again as a proprietor of a business. She retired in 1973 She also worked as a Pink Lady volunteer for the Calhoun County Memorial Hospital in Port Lavaca. Among her ancestors were Dr. William Nelson Gaines, a pioneer medical practitioner in Victoria County, and William Campbell. a confederate soldier.
Surviving are a daughter, Mae Jean Canion of Houston; a sister. Billie Callaway of Port Lavaca, a brother, L.W. Campbell of Seguin. two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Pattie Lee Fitzpatrick.
