The daughter of Richard Alexander and Pearl C. Apple, Emma married Virgil Bolton "Shorty" Durell on 08 Oct 1925 in Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois. They were the parents of 3 children.

Emmas was a homemaker, and Shorty worked as a pipefitter for Shell Oil Company in Roxana, Illinois.

Emma died at Eldercare Nursing Home following a long illness. At the time of her death, she was 76 years, 8 months and 13 days old.

She was survived by 2 daughters, Marjorie Parton of Bradley, Illinois, and Ruth Dyer of Roxana, Illinois; 1 son, David Durell of Edwardsville, Illinois; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Byrl Alexander of Greenville, Illinois, and Roy Alexander of Keyesport, Illinois; and 1 sister, Merle Swartz of Greenville.

In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Shorty; and 2 brothers.

Visitation was held on 16 Jul 1980 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, Illinois. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. the following morning at the Roxana Church of the Nazarene.

Emma was buried next to her husband, Shorty, who passed away in 1978.

Children: 2 daughters, 1 son.
