Robert Lee ~ Winifred (Winnie) Gartman Pitcock, 87, died on April 6, 2013, at Robert Lee Care Center, in Robert Lee, Texas.
Viewing will be held at the funeral home Monday, April 8th , from 9am-1pm Funeral Services will be held 3:00pm Monday, at the Robert Lee Baptist Church, officiated by Danny White.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Randy Gaines, Judd Pitcock, Jerrod Pitcock, Matthew Pitcock, Travis Pitcock, Blake Pitcock, Korey Pitcock, Aaron Moore, and Stewart Millican.
Burial will follow in the Robert Lee Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
October 4,1925, Winifred Irene Gartman was born in Sanco, Texas. Her Parents were Bryan and Sallie (Clevenger) Gartman. She was the first of four children. She grew up with one brother, Douglas, and two sisters, Melva and Annice.
Winnie attended school in Robert Lee, Texas, graduating with the class of 1943. Following graduation, Winnie went to work for Bell Telephone Company in Abilene, Texas.
November, 1945, she met Teddy Earl Pitcock, on a blind date. They married April 4, 1947, in Abilene. Teddy and Winnie lived in Eldorado, Brownfield, and Seminole, Texas, as well as Tatum, New Mexico, before settling in Sanco in August of 1948.
Winnie was an active member of the Sanco Baptist Church for many years serving as Sunday School teacher, pianist, church secretary and treasurer. She later joined the Robert Lee Baptist Church, still taking active parts in Sunday School Vacation Bible School and other activities. Winnie stayed involved in community events throughout her life. While her children were growing up, she served as a "room mother", as well as a chauffeur, taking a car full of children to important events, such as Easter Egg Hunts, class picnics, and field trips. Later in life, she became a member of the 64 Study Club. She served as an election judge for the county for many years. She took part in the counties Sr. Citizen Activities, including playing "80" with a lively group. Winnie enjoyed her grandchildren and she was very proud of their accomplishments. She made an effort to see as many of their activities as possible. She was pleased to say she attended all of their graduations and their weddings. But most of all, Winnie was a shining example for her family. Her quick wit, her contagious giggle, and her kind, caring, sweet smile touched the lives of many people who will miss her, but never forget her.
Winnie was preceded in death by her husband, Teddy Pitcock, her parents, and one brother, Douglas Gartman.
Winnie is survived by three children and three "in-law" children, Gaylon and wife Kaye Pitcock of Robert Lee; Darrel and wife Sharon Pitcock of Robert Lee and Glen Rose; Sheri and husband Marshall Millican of Robert Lee; 9 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, Audra (Pitcock) and husband Randy, Jessica, Katie, and Emily Gaines of Dripping Springs, Texas; Blake and wife Amy Pitcock of Douglas, Wyoming and Robert Lee; Judd and wife Cathy, Alexis, Lauryn, and Eryn Pitcock of San Angelo, Texas; Jerrod and wife Amber, Brody, Kylen, and Jewel Pitcock of Robert Lee, Texas; Korey and wife Robyn, Asher and McKinley Pitcock of Plano, Texas; Kannan (Millican) and husband Aaron, and Bailyn Moore of Alvord, Texas; Matthew and wife Jessie, Landry, Hannah, and Walker Pitcock of Mustang, Oklahoma; Travis and wife Lindsey, Braydon, and Granger Pitcock of Greenwood, Texas; Stewart and wife Crystal, and Blaire Millican of Fort Worth, Texas. Winnie was also survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Thomas and Melva Lee and Curtis and Annice Walker, all of Robert Lee. She also has a host of nieces and nephews and very special friends.
