He married Mary Houck late in the 1840's probably in Mahoning County, Ohio He was a carpenter in Berlin Center in 1850 & 1860

Civil War Service - He enlisted 16 Oct 1861,age 38. He mustered as a Private in Co L, 6th Cavalry Regiment Ohio before the Dec 12 1861 at Camp Hutchins, Warren, Ohio. He was promoted to Full Quartermaster Sergeant on 16 Dec 1861 and promoted to Full 1st Sergeant on 10 Feb 1865. He was wounded (shot in the right thigh) at Sailor's Creek, Virginia on Apr 6 1865. He was commissioned 2nd. Lieutenant on May 31 1865 and promoted to Full 1st Lieutenant on 30 Jul 1865 (Not Mustered) on 30 Jul 1865. He received a disability discharge on 5 Aug 1865, probably at Petersburg, Virginia where the unit mustered out on Aug 7. He filed for an invalid's pension on Nov 10 1865 which was granted - Cert # 55256. His wife filed for a widow's pension on Oct 9 1890 which was granted - Cert # 299137

In 1870 he was probably the Post Master in Canfield, Mahoning, Ohio In 1880 he was a house carpenter in Ravenna, Portage, Ohio
