Gordon Townsend Arnold, 93, of East Harwich, Mass., passed peacefully in Park Ridge, on June 16 in the loving embrace of his family.

The son of Edwin Townsend and Mary Elizabeth Arnold, Bud was born in Utica, N.Y., and graduated from New Hartford High School before attending Hobart College. He worked for the Universal Winding Company and later moved to Providence, R.I., to facilitate construction and testing of the Browning Automatic Rifle during WWII. While in Rhode Island, Bud met his beloved sweetheart, the late Barbara Ann (Weigert), to whom he was married for nearly 65 years.

After WWII, Bud and Barbara settled in Tenafly and Englewood for more than 30 years during which Bud served as vice president of Melchoir Armstrong Dessau in Ridgefield. In the early 1970s, the Arnolds moved to the Pittsburgh area where Bud was employed by Superior Valve Company until his retirement at age 73. Avid sailors throughout their lives, the Arnolds retired to Cape Cod where they were active members of the Monomoy Yacht Club in Chatham for more than 20 years.

Predeceased by his brother Dexter Otis and his wife, Margaret Long Arnold, Bud was a proud and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his three children and their spouses, Nancy and Kevin Collins of Park Ridge, Deborah and Richard Reale of Hillsdale and Park Ridge, and Richard and Judith Arnold of Hackettstown; grandchildren Andrew Collins of Park Ridge, Douglas Collins of San Diego, Matthew and Michele Reale and great grandchild Hannah of Waldwick, Amy Reale of Queens, N.Y., Kyle Arnold of Brooklyn, N.Y., Ross and Mina Arnold of Netcong, and Zachary Arnold of Hackettstown.

A gentle, loving man with a sparkling wit, Bud will always be remembered for his strength and devotion to his family and friends as well as his enthusiasm for the Red Sox and Steelers.

A family memorial service will be held at interment in Arnold Mills, R.I., at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Bud's memory to "Friends of Pleasant Bay", Box 1243, Harwich, MA 02645 (www.fopb.org).
