Yvonne T. Blais
NEW BEDFORD -- Yvonne T. "Meme" (St. Amand) Blais, 84, of Church Street, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at St. Luke's Hospital after a short illness. She was the widow of Leo J. Blais. Born in Fairhaven, the daughter of the late Clement and Alphonsine (Patnaude) St. Amand, she lived in Acushnet during her childhood years and for the past 52 years had lived in New Bedford.
She was a communicant of St. Kilian's Church and was the recipient of the Marian Medal from the Diocese of Fall River. She was also the recipient of a citation from Pope John Paul II.
Mrs. Blais was formerly employed as a stitcher at the Arista Sportswear Co. for many years and was a smiling fixture at the St. Kilian bingo, working in the kitchen for 25 years.
She also baby-sat for numerous children throughout the years.
The most precious things in her life were her family and her faith. She was a kind and gentle person whose love and kindness touched many lives. She was a friend to many and an inspiration to all.
She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, treasured family gatherings, helping the needy, her weekly card games, shopping on Sundays, yard sales, and an occasional trip to Foxwoods.
Survivors include four daughters, Elaine L. Horta and her husband, Pete, and Linda L. Blais, all of Acushnet, Margaret Y. Chase and her husband, Charles, of Middleboro, and Leona A. Barrieau and her husband, Leonard, of East Freetown; two sons, Leo J. Blais II and his wife, Mary, of Andover and Clement R.
