Infrimities (sic) of Age Claim Mrs. Schaecher - Mrs. Catherine Mary Schaecher, 88, died of infirmities of age at 1:45 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, at St. Gertrude's Convent where she had resided since 1955. She had been in failing health for some time.

Catherine Beller was born July 4, 1871, at Fort Madison, Iowa. At the age of eight she moved with her parents to Linsay (sic - should be Lindsay), Neb., where she received her education. She married Theodore Schaecher on October 6, 1896, at St. Bernard's Church, Lindsay (sic - actually St. Bernard), Neb. Mr. and Mrs. Schaecher came west and located at Emmett, Idaho where they resided for a time. Later they moved to Mt. Angel, Ore. Their union was blessed with eight children, three of whom are Benedictine Sisters at St. Gertrude's.

Mrs. and Mrs. Schaecher moved to Cottonwood in 1912 where he operated the Cottonwood Pharmacy until 1921 when he sold the business and the family then moved to Alberta, Canada, where he engaged in farming.

Mr. Schaecher died at Battle Ridge, Alberta, Nov. 29, 1934. Since then Mrs. Schaecher made her home with her children. In later years she served for some time as a parish housekeeper at the Greencreek rectory.

Mrs. Schaecher was a lifelong member of the Catholic faith and was very decout in the practice of her religion. She was a member of the Christian Mothers' Sodality.

She is survived by four daughters: Sister Mary Rose, Sister Mary Assumpta, Sister Mary Aquinas, all of St. Gertrude's Convent, and Mrs. F. W. Albers, Cottonwood; two sons, Lawrence Schaecher, Medford, Ore., and Raymond Schaecher, Eugene, Ore.; a brother, Ignatius Beller, Lindsay, Neb., four sisters, Mrs. Josephine Weidner, Sunny (sic) Valley, Calif.; Mrs. Bertha Backes, Bushnel, Neb.; Mrs. Elizabeth Guff, and Miss Johanna Beller, both of Denver, Colo.

Rosary services for Mrs. Schaecher were held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady, Help of Christians Church. Funeral services were conducted this (Thursday) morning at 8:15 at the church, with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J.M. Verhoeven officiating and singing the solemn requiem high mass. The Rev. Richard Bauman was deacon and Rev. Method Korn, O.S.B., subdeacon.

Honorary pallbearers were Mrs. John Hoene, Mrs. Henry Bosse, Mrs. Catherine Sprute, Mrs. Natalie Wimer, Mrs. Josephine Holthaus, Mrs. Kate Forsmann, Mrs. John Wemhoff, Mrs. August Kopczynski, Sr., Mrs. August M. Seubert, Mrs. Mary Hattrup, Mrs. W.F. Orr, and Mrs. Catherine Martzen. Active pallbearers were Felix W. Hutchins, Fred Wimer, J.B. Engel, Leo Schultz, Herman Seubert and Frank B. Forsman.

Interment was in the Cottonwood Catholic cemetery, with the Uhlorn Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
