Owned and operated one the first commercial fruit nursery in Jackson County and played an important role in both the development of the fruit industry and the growth of Ashland in the late 19th century. The property remained in family ownership through 1927. In 1979 the house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is now used as a traveler's accommodation and is operated as the Coolidge House Bed and Breakfast.
