Grace was the daughter of William Poffenberger and Catharine (Schamel) Poffenberger of Washington County, Maryland. She married Edward Michael Thomas on 6 Feb 1900. They moved to Polo, Ogle County, Illinois that same year. They were the parents of three children: Lillian, Mildred, and Omer Leroy Thomas.
