Michael/Micheal Barnett, Jr. was born in Kershaw District, South Carolina on March 26, 1796, son of Michael Barnett, Sr. (1755-1818) and his wife Katharine/Catherine/Cattron Barnett. Note his headstone spelled his name Micheal Barnett. Michael/Micheal Barnett, Jr. is the paternal grandson of Humphrey Barnett (1725-1791) and Eliza Barnett (abt 1730-1790). Humphrey Barnett aka Humphrey Barnet's Will was dated December 1790 and was precceeded in death by his wife Eliza. In Humphrey Barnet's Will, he named all 7 of his children, which was later probated May 17, 1791 in Camden, Kershaw District, South, Carolina. Their children were Robert Barnet(1754-1827) m. Sarah Love; Micheal Barnet[Sr] (1755-1818); John Barnet(1758-); Sarah Barnet (1860-); Mary Barnet(1862-); Diana Barnet(1764-1843) m. Zachariah Hester; and Isobel Barnet(1766-). Michel Barnet [Sr.] and Diana [Barnet] Hester were both named the'Executrix' of Humphrey's Will. Michael Barnett, Sr. aka Michel Barnet married Catherine/Cattron aka Katharine Barnett in 1780 in Camden, Kershaw District, SC. In Michel Barnet's Will written on 8 Nov. 1807 and then probated 3 April 1818, he names his five children: 1)eldest son John Barnet, 2) his youngest son Michel Barnet, and their three daughters 3) Cattron aka Katharine m. Mr. Reynolds, 4)Elizabeth m. Mr. Spurier and 5)Eliza m. Samuel Ivy and Michael Barnett, Sr.'s wife whom he referred to as 'Cattron'aka Katharine. However, later on Deed of Sale recorded in 1831, Cattron Barnet name was signed "Catharine' Barnet, as the widow of Michael Barnet" (1755-1818) and witnessed by Willam B. Hart. Names of living children were named on Katharine Barnett's Will (widow of Michael Barnett, Sr.) to include son John Barnett; daughter Katharine Reynolds; daughter Elizabeth Spurier; daughter-in-law Susanna Barnett, "widow" and son-in-law Samuel Ivy and daughter Dulet. According to article written by Jyl Hardy, Michael Barnett, Jr., his brother John, their widowed Mother Katherine [aka Catharine Barnett] along with their families moved in early 1830's from Kershaw District, South Carolina to Alabama.

His brother, John had married Mahala Mothershed on Christmas Day 1807. John and his family would later settle in Post Oak, Bullock County, Alabama. John's mother Katherine [aka Catharine/Cattron] Barnett lived with them until her death in 1837 at Post Oak, Bullock County, Alabama.

Michael/Micheal Barnett, Jr. married Susanna Reynolds Mothershed in South Carolina on March 9, 1820.

By 1830, Michael/Micheal Barnett, Jr. and Susanna Mothershed Barnett had 5 children born in Kershaw District, South Carolina:

Micheal Barnett and his brother John with their widowed mother Catharine Barnett and their families left Kershaw District South Carolina between the Spring of 1831 and the 1833 land purchase in Bullock County, Alabama. Jyl Hardy's article stated "After his marriage to Susanna Mothershed of Lancaster, Michael, Jr. continued to work his land on the Wateree".
