A. L. Gettys, age 92, of Coventry Lane, Forest City, N.C., died Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

A. L. was born August 19, 1920 in Rutherford County, N.C. to the late Lee Osborne Gettys and Fannie Luckadoo Gettys.

He worked most of his life in textiles and was of the Protestant Faith. He enjoyed deer hunting, gardening and picking blackberries.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Virginia Elizabeth Wise Gettys; an infant son, Joseph Gettys; three brothers, Johnny Gettys, Clyde Gettys and Ronnie Gettys and one sister, Erie Gettys.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Jolley and husband, Don of Cliffside, Linda Jackson of Ellenboro and Judy Jones and husband, Jerry of Forest City; one son, Mike Gettys of Forest City; two brothers, Rommie Gettys of Tryon, N.C. and Claude Gettys and wife, Faye of Sunshine Community; two sisters, Mitt Toney of Sunshine Community and Etta Thomas of Inman, S.C. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Lanny J. Funchess officiating. Interment will follow in Caroleen-Avondale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
