Adam Hohmann, Deer Creek, Oklahoma and Mary Dyck, Moundridge, Kansas, were married by William Galle at Moundridge, Kansas on March 16, 1899.
Children of the couple, all born at Deer Creek, were Anna Rachel, December 20, 1899; Esther Elizabeth, August 20, 1901; Elsie Barbara, October 20, 1903; Henry Emil, January 18, 1907 and John Dyck, January 28, 1908.
Adam Hohmann was born in Kuchen Hessen Cassel, Germany, March 1 1863. He left Germany October 20, 1881. He landed in New York City, November 13, 1881. He lived in New York for three months and in March 1882 he traveled to Iowa.
Mary Dyck was born in Franklin, Lee County, Iowa, November 11, 1864.
Adam came to Oklahoma one year after the Cherokee Strip and Outlet was opened for settlement. He bought school land one and one half miles south of Deer Creek. His son Henry still lives on the land. There was a good spring of water on the land and people came for miles to fill buckets and water cattle. Adam placed a pipe in the spring to make it easier to catch the water.
When Adam came to America he didn't know the language or anyone. He worked at every kind of work, brickyards in Colorado and many other jobs.
Adam lived in a dirt barn with his horses the first year after buying land and the next year he built a dugout.
Adam and Mary were charivaried with blasts from shot guns and other noisemakers. Anna lives in Deer Creek; Esther in Caney, Kansas; Elsie Barbara, in Anthony, Kansas; John Dyck in Bartlesville; and Henry in Deer Creek, while this project is underway.
