Funeral services were held at the First Ref. Church, Friday afternoon for Mrs. Jacob Van Rooyen who died Tuesday at the Municipal Hospital from a complication of diseases.
Mrs. Van Rooyen, nee Ida Vellinga was born April 16 1879 on a farm near Newkirk. Residing in the Newkirk vicinity she was married there on Jan. 26, 1898 to Jacob Van Rooyen who preceded her in death many years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Van Rooyen wore the parents of 5 children, one of whom died in infancy. The surviving children are Kate (Mrs. Herbert Huisman) of Rock Valley; Walter of Orange City; Jeanette (Mrs. Anthony Van Oort) of Orange City and William of Alton. There are 14 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.
Brothers and sisters surviving are: Mrs. Gt. Hofmeyer of Orange City; Mrs. John Calsbeek of Lynden, Wash.; Mrs. Albert Wassink of Arcadia, Calif.; and Mrs. Henry Vogel of Lynden, Wash.
Preceding in death were 2 granddaughters, Alvina Van Oort-Vander Zwaag and Nelva Jean Van Rooyen a few years ago; also a brother Ed Vellinga and one sister, Mrs. Hannes Van Oort many years ago. Interment was made in the Newkirk cemetery.
