Charles Allen Stowers, age 72, of Rural Retreat, Va., passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013. He was born on May 9, 1940 in Wythe County, the son of the late Allen Stowers and Lucy Atwell Stowers. He attended Riddle Memorial Church of God in Groseclose and was retired from Southwestern State Hospital. Charles was an avid hunter and loved horses and dogs. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ola M. Stowers; two daughters, Margaret and Robert Crigger of Christiansburg, Va., and Renee Hester of Indianapolis, Ind.; three grandchildren, Allison Crigger, Sam Crigger and Haley Killian; sister-in-law, "Tootsie" Elinor Williams of Christiansburg; special friends, Patsy Armstrong, George Tuggle and Kathy Rosales; and numerous hunting buddies. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013, at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with Pastor William Watson and Pastor William Wagner officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery, Wytheville. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association , or Fairview UMC Cemetery Fund.
