Mentor to recovering alcoholics; avid knitter
Theresa J. (Durocher) Lawrence, 74, of Manchester, died July 27, 2003, at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester.
Ms. Lawrence was born May 15, 1929, in Nashua, daughter of the late Jean- Baptiste and Blanche (Messier) Durocher, and had lived in Manchester for more than 20 years.
She worked as a licensed practical nurse at Catholic Medical Center for many years before her retirement.
Ms. Lawrence was a 32-year member of Alcoholics Anonymous and was a mentor to many in the program and had helped countless people on their road to recovery. She was also a foster grandmother for eight years at the Youth Development Center in Manchester and also worked in prison ministries. She was an avid knitter and crotchetier.
Ms. Lawrence was a parishioner of the Parish of the Transfiguration in Manchester.
She graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1971.
Ms. Lawrence was predeceased by a daughter, Christine Lawrence, who died in 1960; and two grandchildren.
Survivors include her former husband, Roger Lawrence of Merrimack; two sons, Thomas Lawrence of Ogdensburg, N.Y., and Gregory Lawrence of Windham; two daughters, Janine Lawrence-Winer of Dunbarton and Susan Merrill of Merrimack; two sisters, Yolande Marshall of Nashua and Paula Lavoie of Manchester; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Trisageon was conducted July 29 at the Phaneuf Funeral Home in Manchester. A liturgy took place July 30 at Our Lady of the Cedars Church in Manchester. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford.
