Harold was born to Sadie "Carver" Russell & Charley Russell on the family farm on Jan. 25, 1922, 4 Miles N.E. of Altoona Ks,. He received his primary education in the 1 room School House called Fairview Dist.#42 that is still located on the hill above the family residence. He graduated from Altoona Rural High School in 1941.

Harold was united in marriage to Ruth Ileen Marsh on Aug 23, 1942 in Iola, Ks. To them 3 Daughters were Born, Carolyn Sue on Jan. 21 1948, Barbara Ellen, on Sept. 8 1950 & Kathie Jo on Dec. 29 in 1951.
Harold was drafted into the Army in 1942 (I think) & received his Basic Training in FT. Benning Ga. After receiving his Basic Training, he was sent overseas to North Africa, From there North into Europe ending up in Belgium.

Upon returning to the Altoona area from the service, he decided that he wanted to be a Custom Wheat Harvester. At this time the Self Propelled Combines were just coming onto the market. Since he was a Veteran, he applied for and received a permit to purchase the FIRST Massey Harris 14 Ft. 21A Self Propelled Combine sold in Wilson Co. Ks. by the Homer Neal Massey Harris agency in Fredonia, Ks. With this 1 Combine he started his pursuit to be a Custom Harvester in the summer of 1946. Pulling a Combine on a Home-brewed Trailer with a 14 Ft. Header down the Highway from Altoona, Ks. to the Enid Okla. area & then North to North Dakota & back home to Altoona, Ks. was an EXPERIENCE!. His Dad bought a New Massey Harris 101 Sr, tractor in 1946 and a new Allis Chalmers 60 Pull type (with PTO) 5 Ft. Combine in spring of 1947 & installed a 2 Ft. after market Extension on it to make it cut 7 FT. and joined Harold in the summer of 1947 in the Custom harvesting.

After a few yrs. going to the Wheat Harvest, in about 1952 he quit the Custom Harvesting & Harold & Ruth moved their Family to Wichita where Harold found employment at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita as a Machinist & later worked in the Seattle area for Boeing.

After returning to the Wichita area, Harold & his Brother-in-law Carl Barnett purchased a small Machine "Job" Shop named Milling Precision Tool, at 118 N. Martinson in Wichita, Ks. Harold latter bought out Carl's share of the business and continued to make various Aircraft parts for Boeing and other Manufacturers. Harold continued to operate the Business until later when he sold the shop & retired.

Harold was awarded a Lifetime Membership in "Albert Pike Lodge #303" for bringing NEW Members into his lodge which was the Largest Masonic Lodge in the World at the time. A job well done Brother.
