Mary Wood was born in Pound Ridge, New York, and married Archibald Crawford Ballston, New York in 1793.

They had 15 children: Carmi (1797); Agnes (1798); Almy (1799); Ezra (1800); Alfred (1802); Sarah Ann (1803); Deborah (1805); Archibald John Lewis (1807); Purthea (1808); 2 twins that died a birth (1809); Henry (1811); John Wallace (1813); Daniel B. (1814); and Archibald (1815). All of these children were born in New York with the possible exception of the last two.

It appears that in the 1820's or 1830's, they moved to Holmes County, Ohio to farm. Their son, Henry, who died in 1837, was the first burial in Old Crawford Cemetery.
Archibald died in 1842 and is also buried there.
