Mildred L. Fairchild, age 70, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 26, 2010. Preceded in death by her husband, Ray Fairchild, parents, Cecil and Fannie Slayton, brother, Roger Dale Slayton, and sister, Zella Boggess. Mildred was born in West Virginia and moved to the Columbus area following high school in 1957, met and married her husband Ray, and started their family together. Family was something that always remained a priority with Mildred. She enjoyed summer camping trips to Tennessee as well as traveling to Myrtle Beach at Christmas with her family. Mildred was a longtime faithful member of Sonshine Mission. For the past 37 years, Mildred has worked most currently as the Transportation Supervisor for the Gahanna-Jefferson School District, a job in which she loves and takes much pride in. A strong work ethic and both a quiet and professional personality are admirable qualities all of which Mildred holds. She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth (Dino) Santiago, Evelyn DeVault, and Eunice (Bill Teeters) Bowen; grandchildren, Jared (Carla) Storer, Jessica (Jason) Hill, Christina (Nathan) Hank, Rocky (fiancé Roberta) Bowen, Amanda (Mark) Elkins, and Joseph DeVault; great grandchildren, Keke, Kelsie, C.J., Kellin, Ray Allen, and Rylee Ann; siblings, Cecil "Bud" Slayton, Jackie Slayton, Johnny Slayton, Bonnie (Okey) Slusser, Shelba Slayton, Eddie (Susan) Slayton, and Nancy Welch; family friend, Mary Bollinger; and many other extended family members and dear friends.
