Who Dies in Fire
Funeral services for Mrs. Ella Slura O'Briant, 81 who perished in a fire which partially destroyed her home at 1009 North First street, early yesterday, will be held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon at the Phillips-Robinson funeral home. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Three other women, Mrs. Sam B. Taylor and Mrs. Pauline McGinnis, daughters of Mrs. O'Briant, and Miss Mary Carmon, a roomer managed to flee the burning residence with only minor burns.
The fire was discovered at about 3:20 a.m. Mrs. O'Briant, an invalid, was unable to leave her bed, and her two daughters and the roomer said the flames engulfed the house so quickly that they could not give her help.
In addition to her daughters, Mrs. O'Briant is survived by three sisters, Mrs. J. e. Hardaway and Mrs. A. E. Brent, both of Nashville and Mrs. A. F. Stem of Whitehaven, Tenn.; a brother, D. O. c. Cook of Marion, Ky., and four grandchildren.
