A MEMORIAL WRITTEN BY THE OFFICIAL BOARD OF THE
POWERSVILLE METHODIST CHURCH

On Wednesday afternoon, May 10, 1962, God called home another of
our beloved members, Mr. G. G. Adams. Mr. Adams, age 86, died after an
extended illness. He had been a resident of Powersville since 1919, joining the Powersville Methodist Church shortly after moving here. During many years of faithful service in our church as trustee, Stewart and secretary and treasurer of the Church. His was a shining Christian teacher, honest, truthful and faithful to God and to man.
Mr. Adams, "Uncle George" or "Brother George", however he was
known to us, was loved by the old and young. He had the neatness and manners of a Chesterfield, the gentleness of a lamb and the wisdom of Solomon. He never spoke evil of anyone, he chose his words wisely and well.
For 25 years he ran the General Store and was postmaster at Powersville. In this capacity his acquaintances were varied, but poor or wealthy, white or colored found in him a true friend. Our pastor referred to him as the man in "The house by the Side of the Road," a true friend to everyone.
As we, the Official Board of the Powersville Methodist Church, meet
tonight, our hearts are heavy, we know there is a vacancy in our midst that never can be filled. We know too, that the life of our loved one was a challenge to us. We can only say for Brother George, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day". 2 Timothy 4:7-8
